Honestly, I am not a fan of mob movies. I can count those I have seen on one hand. I am truly not interested in watching a movie about these people. Generally. My only reason for watching this was Michael Pitt. I am a fan and I'll give anything he is in a go. I couldn't say I actually liked him in this one as all I could see was the dumb ass true life moron he plays (which is a credit to his acting skills). I mean seriously, who would hold up the mob (or anyone) and show their face and then take personal belongings such as gold watches which could easily be identified as belonging to a particular person - also with no disguise. How did this man honestly expect to get away with that?! It staggers me that this is a true story. Having said that, it was entertaining and kept me watching and I liked the actress who played the girlfriend too - very unusual look and fun character (unfortunately, also dumb as). Slightly amusing (intentionally?), well paced movie. Recommended.

A true crime drama, Rob the Mob tells the unlikely story of how two naive small-time criminals ended up bringing down the New York Mafia. While following the criminal trial of John Gotti, ex-con Tommy Uva gets the idea to rob mafia social clubs, and in doing so he accidentally gets a listing of the entire Gambino crime family. Starring Michael Pitt, Nina Arianda, Andy Garcia, and Ray Romano, the film has a decent cast. But the writing is weak, particularly when it comes to the characters. And the storytelling isn't that great either, as it does a poor job at creating suspense. Despite the fascinating real-life events that Rob the Mob is based on, the film has trouble telling it in a compelling and interesting way.

Funny, energetic, endearing, and an effective crime caper, Rob the Mob is an immensely enjoyable film. Based on a true story, the film follows a likeable, yet painfully inept couple, Tommy and Rosie, whose antics turn them in to a sort of modern day Bonnie and Clyde. The pair soon makes a name for themselves targeting mob "social clubs", unwittingly uncovering a crucial piece of evidence in the FBI's fight against the mob. Director Raymond DeFelitta brings us a unique mix of comedy, romance, intrigue and true life story with Rob the Mob. The most successful aspect of the film was the dynamic between Michael Pitt (Tommy) and Nin Arianda (Rosie). Both had excellent chemistry, and had the right amount of manic energy to keep up with the film's brisk pace, and their frenzied, ill-fated personas. At the same time, we're giving more intellectually driven characters such as Andy Garcia's Al (a mob boss), and a surprisingly effective role for Ray Romano as a journalist telling their story. All of this is set against the celebrity fest that was the Gotti trial, which is integrated well. We are able to get a sense of all the characters, their motivations, their personalities, without the need to telegraph things to us. This is done with creative means and through the interactions of the cast themselves, with a script that is able to strike a good balance. Ultimately the focus remains on the central love story, which anchors the film, and gives it charm among a much uglier world not keen on letting them alone. 4/5 Stars

1992, small time thugs Thomas and Rosie Uva are tired of knocking over convience stores for peanuts, so one night they come up with an idea, a crazy idea. While scouting locations, Thomas accidentally stumbled upon a mafia owned bar and realized, there's a whole lot of money there and not much protection. For the next year, the duo ripped off the mob without consequence, until they took something that made them both the biggest targets in New York. This is another unbelievably true story, that has been brought to the big screen and the public eye, because of our on-going fascination with organized crime. Mafia movies do so well at the box office, that writers are scrambling to find any story they can turn into a film and it's the audience that has benefited the most. Some people say these movies glorify crime, and maybe they do, but to me, anything Mafia related is just fascinating. Watching these films and hearing these stories, you think how could that have happened? Then you go to Wikipedia and find out it's all true! Rob The Mob is the latest in a bunch of these little known Mafia stories to hit the big screen and it does not disappoint. Who plays a Mafia don better than Andy Garcia? Add to that the intense, Michael Pitt, straight off a successful run in Boardwalk Empire, and you have the makings of a terrific cast. The bottom line, Rob The Mob isn't Goodfellas, but it's a hell of a story, with a cast that's experienced in these types of films. It's pretty much what you'd expect from a Mafia movie, but if your like me, that doesn't matter much, it's the story and personalities that you're really interested in.
