TheFilmCritics @TheFilmCritics 2 days ago Good intentions can only carry a comedy so far, and RocketMan never quite reaches orbit. Its oddball charm is undeniable, with Harland Williams bringing likable energy to the socially awkward Fred Z. Randall, while the space sequences deliver some cheerful, old-fashioned adventure and an appealing underdog message. Unfortunately, the film repeatedly trades wit for broad slapstick, bodily gags, and predictable jokes about incompetence. A premise ripe for clever NASA satire instead feels assembled from familiar family-comedy parts, with thin supporting characters leaving Williams to shoulder much of the load. Pleasant, sincere, and occasionally funny, RocketMan has enough warmth to remain likable—but not enough imagination to become memorable. See more JOSHUA K @defmagic Jul 30, 2026 I watched this as a kid on whatever friday night this premiered on the Disney channel for the first time - I had been sick and felt terrible. I was about 7 years old and staying at my grandparents house. I watched this movie in bed and it lifted my spirits and I was able to finally eat (and keep it down) and started to feel better. What a great family movie thats purposely silly and doesn't care how ridiculous it is. I wish we got more of that in movies today. It's okay to be dumb. The sense is of humor in this film is great! And, while it’s definitely not the reason you watch this movie, it does have a good story alongside all the humor. Definitely a good time. No, I did not miss remember this is a great movie. I was cracking up through most of the film. As a over 40 year old nearly fulling grown man this is a winner for clean humor. It made a lasting impression on me for Harland's practical / physical / prop comedy. Naturally, it makes a lasting impression with humble viewers, compared to proud and prestigious members of the National Society of Film Critics (for whatever that's worth. Honestly, that makes it even more worth watching to viewers like me!) So if you have a family, and / or enjoy tame and silly comedy, then it's movie night. My favorite scene is where Fred is in the isolation chamber during his training. You'll have to see it to enjoy it for yourself!
