      Critics Consensus

Even if it isn't as engaging as the real-life story that inspired it, Rogue Agent remains a well-acted and appealingly twisty suspense thriller.

Stan M starts off a little slow. but picks up about halfway through. good flick if you stick with it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/22 Full Review A sincere movie fan Very interesting with a great cast. I could not look away for fear I would miss something. Shows you can have a great movie experience without the need to sell itself through violence alone. Truly a movie for adults and a warning to all about the current state of people trying to con others. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/14/22 Full Review Joe O Interesting story. Good acting. Intriguing and enjoyable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Jelisije J An engaging movie that is a biopic of one of the most despicable con artist you will know about. Definitely worth watching, but its very slow to get into and the rewatch ability is not up to par compared to other films. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Ted B 3.5 stars; The performances by Robert Norton and Gemma Arterton were sterling. They took a Hallmark Mystery story (actually a real life story) and raised it to a first-class Brit Crime Drama.. Something the Brits do with regularity.. Norton was so good in his role that I was 'conned' for the first half of the movie. And, Ms. Arterton was so compelling that we were hanging on with her to the very end for her revenge. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/23/23 Full Review Gareth D I have watched the documentary miniseries about Freegard before so I expected not to enjoy this so much, however it told a very different part of the story and was actually a good movie. Manuel Betancourt Variety In Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn’s diligently crafted British caper “Rogue Agent,” the lines between a rakish spy and a dashing lover are blurred in the figure of Robert Freegard. Sep 28, 2022 Full Review Katie Walsh Tribune News Service "Perhaps the prurient unravelings of Freegard’s greatest hits is best left to the nonfiction projects, but even with the liberties of narrative adaptation, Lawn and Patterson leave the psychological and emotional depths of this story unexplored." Rated: 2/4 Aug 15, 2022 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) There was not enough story here to make a real movie. Aug 12, 2022 Full Review Lee Jutton Film Inquiry While one cannot deny the simple joys of watching two actors as nimble and attractive as Arterton and Norton play cat and mouse, Rogue Agent never quite lives up to its extraordinary premise. Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Although the film paints Freegard as a rather one-dimensional villain, the screenplay provides enough procedural surprises to maintain the suspense. Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Peter Canavese Groucho Reviews This true story of a fraudster's been fictionalized into a victim-turned-avenger feminist triumph. It works due to the anti-chemistry of its two leads. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
