Sir Robert Thorndyke (Peter O'Toole) is an aristocrat and hunter who, just for the sport of it, tracks Adolph Hitler to his mountain retreat. With the Fuhrer in his crosshairs, Thorndyke is caught and subsequently tortured by the SS. They attempt to kill him and make his death seem like a hunting accident, but Thorndyke escapes back to England -- only to find that German agents have followed him there. The hunter soon finds himself the hunted in a deadly game of cat and mouse.

Audience Member Peter O'Toole as his enigmatic self , and playing the artistocratic English gentleman of boys own culture is wonderfully enjoyable to watch how he extricates himself , through extremes. Great stuff, never to be repeated. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Badly dated TV drama, featuring an operatically mannered Peter O'Toole as Hitchcockian fugitive Hunter, a man intent on assassinating Hitler and who somehow survives a 200-foot fall with just a scuff. In Frederic Raphael's wordy script he is tracked down to Dorset, where he very sensibly decides the best thing to do is hide in a dug-out. Clive Donner directs flatly and it's no surprise to learn it was shot in three weeks. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member "Rogue Male" deserves a modern day remake. The story is superb. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Good British television film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
