Audience Member This movie should have been a global hit, and I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out why it never happened. The movie is exquisite, but the IMDb website shows that Romantic Island grossed less than a million dollars globally. Either it was mishandled upon completion, or it intentionally targeted a limited audience. There is a small Catholic/Christian thread in the movie: this would make sense, since the Philippines is predominantly Catholic, and the movie is about Koreans vacationing in the Philippines. I hesitate to believe that Korean culture would not accommodate a little Western religion in this movie; rather, the only thing that makes sense is that this movie TARGETED a Korean Catholic/Christian subculture, but honestly the movie doesn't FEEL this way. It feels like mainstream material, so there's something going on here that I don't understand. This movie needs to be valued for the jewel that it is.
