Audience Member "Yer a wizard, Scully"...hell, the witch is even a redhead for good measure. Oh sure, Olaf's Frozen Adventure caused everybody to start bitching and moaning and deliberately show up 30 minutes late for Coco before cinemas got the hint and pulled it off all future prints but this cutesy stop-motion special that was attached with, oddly enough, Thor: The Dark World gets a pass. Then again, I think it depends on what region you saw it because when I saw Thor 2 at the cinema, there weren't any 25-minute claymation short films though amusingly, when I saw The Good Dinosaur in 2015 it had two short films, the obligatory Pixar short and a different regionally-exclusive short. But enough beating around the bush, is this half-hour short any good? It's passable with appealing animation and a cutesy story with a cat that goes through good character development but it seems pointless to cast Gillian Anderson as a witch who barely says anything the entire short whilst the Simon Pegg-voiced narrator gets to do all the heavy lifting...for certain values of the term. It wasn't boring and I actually think there was more heart put into this than the infamous aforementioned Olaf's Frozen Adventure but it's mainly intended to keep children quiet and force those poor Americans to stay for an extra half-hour in the cinema before getting the big superhero movie they paid to see. Seriously, why was it attached to Thor 2 instead of, I don't know, those Planes spin-off movies that came out in 2013 and 2014? Eh, this exists and I'll be incredibly amused if some professional YouTube critic reviews Room on the Broom and results in some memes to insert Witch Scully into the MCU, not unlike a certain Stan Lee cameo in a certain non-superhero Anne Hathaway movie from 2004. It would put a smile on my face. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member incredible animation, script, voice acting, cast, characters and visual animation. Maybe Even Steal Your Heart. ð??? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member It’s a cute movie for young children. While I admire the animation style, it was a little too slow for me. It felt like they were deliberately doing things slowly to try to stretch it out to almost 30 minutes. I can see how they wouldn’t have a ton of material given that it is based on a very short children’s book, but I felt like they could have added some minor extra moments instead of just stretching the source material out so much. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/18 Full Review Audience Member This is a lesser read Donaldson book in our house but as a family we all really enjoyed this screen adaptation. It's got some great silent humour gags and it's touching at the end. My 4 year old was talking about it for a few days afterwards as well. Lovely stuff.
