France, 1870s. Rosalie is a young woman unlike any other. She hides a secret: she was born with a face and body covered in hair. She's concealed her peculiarity all her life to stay safe, shaving to fit in. Until Abel, an indebted bar owner unaware of her secret, marries Rosalie for her dowry. Will Abel be able to love Rosalie and see her as the woman she is, once he finds out the truth?

Donald Clarke Irish Times Tereszkiewicz and Magimel give us a pair without the language to negotiate emotional crises that contemporaneous society would prefer to keep repressed. The final catharsis is moving and plausible. Rural life is represented with some elegance. Rated: 3/5 Jul 13, 2024 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) It’s watchable enough, but a cursory screenplay lets the film down, and Rosalie’s arc from shaven shame to hairy defiance never fully persuades. Rated: 3/5 Jun 10, 2024 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) The performances are sharp and the shooting style grand, but the fact the story ends on a whopping false note signifies how far off-piste it’s drifted by then. Rated: 2/5 Jun 7, 2024 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz Rosalie is engrossing, beautifully photographed, genuinely funny and often quite moving. Rated: 4/5 Oct 14, 2024 Full Review Clotilde Chinnici Loud and Clear Reviews Overall, despite some issues in its pacing and character development, Rosalie is a wonderful film with beautiful cinematography and clever use of its camera work. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 14, 2024 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times Some ill-conceived narrative choices tip this sophomore outing into novelettish melodrama. Louise L The film was set in an idyllic location, the costume situation worked well. I wasn't too sure about the story. I left halfway through as it seemed the topics up for discussion although valid, I couldn't cope with that particular evening. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review adrian b I thought it was a beautiful and extremely moving film, best foreign film I've seen in a long time. Not to be missed, though I'm sure that unfortunately it will be. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
