Audience Member Film version of the classic children novel from Ole Lund Kirkegaard. I read it as a kid myself and I liked it a lot. Recently I have read it for some eight year olds at my workplace and finishing it off with the film seemed perfect. Most kids thought they was getting a cartoon. I believe they probably got those thoughts from the illustrations in the book, but it could be the pretty unrealistic things that go on at times. The film is old and Danish, but that is not a big problem. The main problem is that both the book and the film seem a year or two above the kids. The film is a plesant watch for adults, but for younger kids it's a big sit down. There is not much action the first hour or so, but the last third of it is more entertaining so the kids also loved it then. A film with great messages, but it's not all that for young kids, or elder kids. It's hard to hit the exact spot. Interesting to see all the cursing and the drinking habits that was put in a film suited for kids 30 years ago. None of my pupils had one single comment about it though. 6 out of 10 strong hats.
