Josh A This is technically a Ring 2 legacy sequel as it's set 20 years after, made 20 years after and Hideo Nakata returns as director. Let's get the negatives out of the way with first so that we can end on a positive note. This one isn't the movie's fault, but the subtitles sucked. It was like someone got the dialogue via speech to text and google translated it into English. You had some peculiar translations e.g. "voice not so great" and "I Kazuma find a more attractive.". But, that wasn't the movie's fault. Like most Ring sequels, there were times when it was boring and the ending jumpscare was lame, feeling like something you'd find in a FNAF fangame, but the buildup to it was good. Now the positives. This movie stands on its own well: it's not Ring 3, the only things linking it to Ring 1 and 2 being Sadako and Masami, which is good because we never needed a Ring 3. The new video tape wasn't as good as the original version from the 1998 movie and felt like it was trying to be the American tape, but it was a good version of the tape. Also the YouTuber angle was interesting and I liked Kazuma's over-the-top and theatrical nature. Overall, this movie solidified the Nakata timeline (Ring 0, Ring, Ring 2, Sadako) as the superior and much shorter timeline. Sadako DX next!
