While hard-hitting and violently inventive, Safe ultimately proves too formulaic to set itself apart from the action thriller pack -- including some of its star's better films.

Sam C It is not a poor movie. But a few narrative choices hurt it overall. Having the main villain have so little screen time is also a mistake. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Mark H Good solid action movie. I have a slight issue with how easily they worked out a page containing one long number was the code to a safe but other than that not bad overall ! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Bryan B This is one time where back story hurt more than helped and made things way more complicated than needed for this level of movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/03/23 Full Review T T I love Jason Statham. As you would expect, this is an action packed movie. That said, it's a typical action movie, so the plot is not very deep or tight. But still, it's very engaging and entertaining. The only problem, which was annoying, was how the Russian and Chinese mafias were constantly talking in Russian and Chinese during almost all of their conversations- which were frequent. This required reading so many English subtitles. Obviously, it's normal to speak your own language when you're talking to your own people. But this is an English movie taking place in America. So to be forced to read so much of the oral dialogue was rather annoying and distracting. Other than that, the action scenes were decent and the directing was good. The acting was good too. Overall, it's a good movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/23 Full Review Eugen S ein action in der style von 90er. für einen mal nicht schlecht. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Harri K Don't think too much. And don't mind the heavy editing. The action is quite solid and the narrative flows well enough. Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com The mechanics make sense, what's going on fits within the confines of the narrative structure, making what's going on within both surprisingly fun and shockingly engaging. Rated: 3/4 May 15, 2012 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) Like so many action films these days the film is over-edited and under-plotted, and we've seen Statham's tough guy character many times before. Rated: 2.5/5 May 10, 2012 Full Review Nick Schager Slant Magazine It's the imposing Statham's badass grimace and combat acumen that primarily elevate Safe above your average direct-to-video genre work Rated: 2.5/4 May 9, 2012 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Action junkies should be pleased. Rated: 3/4 Nov 20, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies A sharply directed action picture that builds on a really strong performance from Statham all the way to its bullet-ridden finale. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 25, 2022 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... delivers an unexpectedly dense, speedy, tight action thriller that is full of rapid-fire street action, makes great use of Statham’s physical poise, and features a body count big enough to make a dent in the New York City census results.
