Based on Mallory Smith's posthumously published memoir of the same name, Salt In My Soul offers a rare look inside the mind of a young woman trying to live fully while dying. Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 3, Mallory turned to a secret diary to record her inner thoughts. Using that treasure trove of writing, and hours of audio and video discovered after her untimely death, the film is a classic coming of age story about choosing to live mindfully and joyously in the face of immense struggle.

Alicia S This documentary touched my soul, all she did in her short life and how she never let CF stop her from doing and achieving all that she could in her short life was beautiful and inspiring. Her outlook on life and "can-do" attitude was incredible and awe-inspiring. The film itself was beautifully edited, and captured the essence of who Mallory was, she was a beautiful person with such a desire to live and do everything she could without letting her disease define or limit her. This documentary is one that will stay with me. Heartbreaking but also a must-see, more research and money needs to be put into phage therapy, it's heart breaking that if she had just gotten it sooner, things would've been different for her. It's also Heartbreaking that countless lives are lost everyday, potentially because phage therapy is not utilized to save so many people with so many different diseases, all because money can't be made by phage therapy treatments. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Andrea S An inspiring story about an amazing young woman and her committed family that will leave you heartbroken but hopeful. Mallory refused to let her illness define her and teaches us all how important it is to make each moment count. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Nikki M An incredibly inspirational film that has seriously impacted me and the way I view life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Linda B Hard to convey how touching and impactful this movie is. Mallory Smith's writing, her sense of humor and her zest for life all combine to make her an unforgettable character - and this an unforgettable film. Simply inspiring. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review dave d "Salt in my Soul" is a partially autobiographical account of the years of Mallory Smith and her fight against cystic fibrosis. A hard, but necessary watch, the documentary once again shines a bright light on the failing United States health care system. I knew very little about the disease, but was amazed at how much there is to learn! Very well parsed and explained in detail. Smith charted her life in writing, audio and video. The result of that documentation has been a book and this film and many who are learning how to cope. Smith's life may have been short, but was one well lived! Final Score: 9/10 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing documentary on a remarkable woman. I read the book first and just watched the documentary. Mallory was such an inspiration in the way she lived. She was tough in a situation that most people would just crumble. Her gratitude despite her health prognosis showed how truly different and special she was. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/22 Full Review Read all reviews
