Jonathan Romney Financial Times As well as working rivetingly as a procedural thriller and a psychological study, Santosh has a hard, documentary-like edge, exploring Indian social phenomena with intense analytical focus. Rated: 5/5 Mar 24, 2025 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian A tough, sinewy, satisfying film. Rated: 4/5 Mar 22, 2025 Full Review David Jenkins Little White Lies It’s a slow, detailed procedural, one which carefully draws you into its dismal intrigue – and it’s engrossing for much of its runtime. Rated: 3/5 Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Sean McGeady Radio Times The pace is studied but there's plenty to see, not just in Santosh's compelling quest for answers but in two performances of remarkable restraint and subtlety, from Goswami as the titular widow and Rajwar as her superior. Rated: 4/5 Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Ayaan Paul Chowdhury The Hindu One of the film’s most impressive triumphs is its use of non-actors, who slip seamlessly into the screen and make you question where performance ends and reality begins. Mar 25, 2025 Full Review Helen Hawkins The Arts Desk Goswami is superb, but it’s a film full of minutely nuanced performances with a compellingly sombre message. Susan This is a brilliant film, enlightening subtle, and disturbing, with an amazing performance by the lead actress, Shahana Goswami. I attended a matinee performance on Friday and the theater was empty. This film deserves to be experienced by everyone! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Harshvardhan A Santosh is a raw and honest portrayal of rural India, capturing the everyday struggles, resilience, and cultural authenticity often overlooked in mainstream cinema. The film’s simplicity and genuine emotions make it impactful, though its slow pace may test the patience of viewers accustomed to fast-paced storytelling. It’s a heartfelt depiction of life’s harsh realities and the strength found in simplicity. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review AnGame b of course they banned this in india. had the privilege of seing this nonetheless and had to pause it several times to deal with my own emotions. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review aryan a Another movie that absolutely does nothing to unearth the ground reality of the contemporary politicised cases that it claims to narrate. Well you expect a filmmaker to research about likes of hathras case where 5 people were bundled up after political and activist agitation made it upper caste lower caste issue , NYT , WaPo wrote columns on it and an year later it was found the girl wasn’t raped , physical assault caused her unfortunate death and one accused was awarded sentence for cashing death not amounting to murder. But no newspaper or director ever told the tale of 4 accused who were let off by court whose life was made hell. Just mix political narrative and activism and totally avoid the ground reality to present a poverty porn, with hints of casteism and Islamophobia and voila your delulu left ecosystem movie is ready ! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Sudipto D A gripping, engaging, and naked depiction of reality of the society, it's casteism and how this thing affects the lives of people… Narration wise, acting wise, technical wise a brilliant movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/25 Full Review Satyaki R While we as audience always watch movies with preconceived notion 'Santosh' breaks our judgemental values narrating an intense story about casteism, religion and women empowerment based on real life events. The cinematography and acting capture the minute detail of the scenes so well it is deeply harrowing and distressing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Read all reviews
