Critics Consensus

Save Yourselves! doesn't do anything unexpected with its one-joke premise -- but fortunately, that one joke turns out to be consistently funny anyway.

Leslie Felperin Guardian For the most part it manages an adept balance between satire, sincerity and sheer silliness that's ultimately winning. Rated: 3/5 Nov 19, 2020 Full Review Jocelyn Noveck Associated Press Things get a little weird, and the ending may not be as neat as one expects. But hey, these are tough times. A diversion like "Save Yourselves!" might just save your week. Rated: 3/4 Nov 13, 2020 Full Review Claudia Puig FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's droll, clever, and fun! Oct 10, 2020 Full Review Kip Mooney College Movie Review A charming, lo-fi comedy that at times felt painfully authentic. Rated: B+ Aug 10, 2021 Full Review Miles Surrey The Ringer In the moment, a long-term relationship going stale might seem like the end of the world-Save Yourselves! brings that idea to life a bit more literally. May 8, 2021 Full Review Alex Saveliev Film Threat In a miserable year filled with grim cinematic fare, this eminently re-watchable science-fiction comedy provides a much-needed spark of lighthearted exultation. Val Slow start but ultimately LOTS of laugh out loud moments. Also an ending that left you thinking. I really liked it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/24/20 Full Review The Chosen One really good movie!! very silly and easy to follow. very very bad ending though Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/15/20 Full Review Matan G This movie was hilarious! I loved how they made jabs at millenials, but in jest and to be honest it wasn't even jabs. I especially like that it did not take itself too seriously and if you really think about it, it asks important questions like "When is technology important, and how much of it is too little or not enough?" The actors did an excellent job and their interactions with one another were very solid and fluid. You could tell they had a lot of fun with this on set. Overall I highly recommend seeing it! One thing I am noticing is people who are upset with the ending. Not to get into it to much so I don't spoil it, but when watching the ending think about what YOU believe to be true and then question it. It makes you really think if you go about it that way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/14/20 Full Review B P A fun film, led by 2 outstanding actors, that also gives us the opportunity to really think. I've seen SY! 3 times already and each time I laugh even harder and pick up on subtle hints and nuances that give me a deeper understanding of the film and make me appreciate it even more. So, whether you are just looking for an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon or are ready to delve into the more important questions, SY! should be at the top of your "must watch" list! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/20 Full Review M. Car This film is just what 2020 ordered. Not only is it very much-needed comic relief from an absolutely horrifying reality, but the film touches on our humanity in a way that has never been more relevant. We all know that existential tug to put our phones down and unplug from everything for a while. But what happens when that toxic piece of technology is the one thing that could save you from an apocalypse? We've gotten comfortable as a society with food delivery, entertainment on demand, and everything we could possible want at our finger tips. But what happens when we need to depend on our skills to survive? Are you prepared to save yourselves? This film is quick witted, funny as hell, and really gets you thinking about the ways in which the human race handles a crisis. As for whether, ultimately, technology is crucial or a crutch... I'll leave that up to you to decide at the end of this film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/20 Full Review Steve Woz Very suspenseful and went beyond my expectations at every step. A couple's relationship comes to great terms in an unpredictable setting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/20 Full Review Read all reviews
