Five college students in New Zealand enjoy free living accommodations when they set themselves up in an abandoned house. The deal gets even better when they discover a stockpile of marijuana plants growing in the basement. They sell the psychoactive crop and bask in their newfound wealth -- until the plants' real owner shows up. As fear and paranoia grip the students, they lock the livid horticulturist in the basement and decide what to do next. Murder is definitely an option.

Audience Member A lovely snapshot of Dunedin student life - highly recommended ! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Crime 101 is an independent film from New Zealand made on the cheap and even cutting cost Crime 101 is able to deliver suspense and tension by the bundle. Though the acting is a bit amateurish it in no way takes away from the tight writing and intense direction by Robert Sarkies. Crime 101 is one of those films that no one has ever heard of but can be a great hit when shown to the right audience. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Scarfies is a typical New Zealand comedy, filled with bad acting, sex, weed and swearing. I don't even know who thought it was a good idea to ruin the reputation of New Zealand with this film, the plot is ridiculously stupid and antisocial. The only redemption of the film is the nice filming and editing techniques. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Really miss Dunedin now Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I was pleasantly suprised by this homegrown film, plenty of laughs, an interesting premise, great chracters and twists and real suprises! Whilst the look and cinematography were bland Scarfies still exceeded all my expectations! We have talent! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member a unique film. part morality play, part dark humor, part romance. if you dug that narrative arc of Breaking Bad where they debate whether to kill the guy in their basement, you'll dig this too. and for you cool indie rock kids....the clean make an appearance in the film at a club playing their song ,"Tally Ho!".
