Critics Consensus

Sure to inspire a few chuckles, but not enough to compensate for the recycled material from its predecessors.

Scary Movie 4 is so lazy it's downright boring, something not even a naked Leslie Nielsen (!) can salvage. Go to Full Review

[I]nstead of being bad and cohesive like 'Scary Movie 3', or bad but with a bit of commentary like 'Scary Movie 2', it’s a new third bad thing. It’s making me realize just how much potential the original 'Scary Movie' had. Go to Full Review

The jokes still feel sharp. They are rooted in tone, theme, and character rather than just surface-level references. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 3d Scary Movie 4 is a disappointing entry in the franchise that shows how far the series has drifted from the sharper parody style of the early films. While the opening spoof with Shaquille O’Neal and Saw tries to set a comedic tone, it never fully develops into anything consistently funny or memorable, leaving the rest of the movie struggling to recover. The humor relies heavily on basic gags and recycled ideas rather than strong satire of the films it is referencing. Instead of building momentum, it moves from sketch to sketch with little connection, which makes the pacing feel uneven and unfocused. There are a few brief moments that land, but they are too scattered to elevate the overall experience. The film also feels oddly safe, never pushing its jokes far enough to stand out, but also lacking a clear comedic identity. It sits in an awkward middle ground where it is neither bold nor particularly clever. See more Nathan J. @NathanDirector Jun 7 Rating: 5.6/10 ⭐️ Prepping for the new 2026 film. I honestly expected a worn-out formula, but the unhinged Saw and War of the Worlds mashup brought solid nostalgic laughs. What Worked: • As an indie director, seeing them perfectly recreate the grime of the Saw bathroom just for ridiculous gags honestly ruled. • Faris and Hall’s chaotic banter totally grounds the weirdness. • Nielsen as the President is top-tier; his deadpan delivery completely carries his scenes. The Friction: • Wandering the isolated village really dragged the pacing for me. • Random cameos like Dr. Phil and Shaq honestly pulled me out of the parody vibe. • The repetitive slapstick made it feel a bit too chaotic instead of actually clever. Verdict: Watch for campy mid-2000s laughs. Skip if random cameos annoy you. See more Trevor S. @RT62938485 Jun 5 Love it, love it! Such funny scenes! Cindy and Brenda always delivering the best!
