What to Know

Critics Consensus

Less a return to Scream's roots than a disappointing creative regression, this seventh entry draws little blood with its dull knife of a script.

Ghostface remains a reliable thrill, giving fans of the franchise much to relish in Scream 7, even if some plot beats feel comfortably familiar.

Scream 7 lacks any semblance of its energy on either the horror or the comedy side of things. It’s not scary, and it’s not that funny. I wish some studio executive had the bravery to kill the franchise. Be sure to shoot it in the head. Go to Full Review

There just isn’t that much meta commentary you can supply for horror franchises this deep into their existence, except that they mostly suck. Go to Full Review
Rachel Shatto Bloody Good Horror (Podcast) 3d
Despite Neve Campbell’s welcome return, and some thrillingly nasty kills, with this entry Scream has become what it once deconstructed and in doing so becomes a carbon copy of its once incisive, thrilling meta slasher roots. Go to Full Review

This film is caught between self-awareness and self-indulgence. It understands its past intimately but struggles to ask why revisiting it still matters. Go to Full Review

I’d also possibly argue that this franchise has now exhausted its own mythology to the point that there’s really no way it can continue without feeling so contrived that it starts to undermine and pollute its legacy. Go to Full Review

Tony 3h It was more hilarious than scary See more Harsh 10h Just watched Scream 7 and honestly it had me guessing who the killer was all the way to the end, the twists were pretty sick and kept things interesting even when it felt a little all over the place, and at this point you’re really watching because you’re already invested in the franchise, but for that it does the job and is still worth a watch if you’re a fan. See more larry 11h Big cliche of the movie didn’t make me feel terrified. See more Rose Vasquez 13h Scream 7 tried to tie it itself to the franchise but it was not a clear path. Tying the killers to a mental institution was a stretch. Good bloody scenes but not a true Scream. Why bring Gail Weathers in then give her role a small part?
