Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express The deep pleasures of a simple story, simply yet eloquently told, is what makes Secret Superstar such an engaging, true watch. Till the first half. Post-interval, it dips, and the result is a film which stops short of being superlative. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 11, 2019 Full Review Udita Jhunjhunwala Scroll.in More than the story, which leans on several tropes and clichés, it's the graph of the characters and the performances that elevate the emotion. Oct 20, 2017 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian This is first-class entertainment, the best imaginable antidote to the toxicity presently leaking out of western movie circles. Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2017 Full Review Jimmy Cage Jimmy Cage Movie Reviews (YouTube) SECRET SUPERSTAR is a really super powerful, emotional coming-of-age film with a heartfelt mother-daughter relationship at its core. The simple, almost fairytale-like narration is perfectly legitimate in transporting this empowering and inspiring story. Rated: 8/10 Aug 8, 2022 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad Firstpost Aamir Khan’s presence has given Secret Superstar pre-release visibility, but what gives it staying power through its running time is the strength of its storytelling and conviction. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 5, 2022 Full Review Saibal Chatterjee NDTV Secret Superstar never loses sight of its principal purpose: lending heft and height to a daughter's derring-do and a mom's mutiny. Kevin M A little bit short, overall not too bad. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Terrific, touching, passionate, and uplifting Insu is a young girl with a passion for singing so when there’s an Inter-school singing competition it might be her chance to show off her amazing talents She could even have a chance to perform on national television The only problem is her father forbids her from any such activity and he’s abusive toward her mother So what’s the natural thing to do; sneak off and secretly enter against all odds Insu’s dream is for everyone to hear her voice but can she help her mom and brother? Her classmate Chintan has a thing for her and believes in her aspirations as well Even if she has to hide her face donning a secret persona named ‘Secret Superstar’, Insu still wants to be seen as well as have her mother be brave enough to stand up to her husband Plus a famous recording artist she entrusts to get recognition might have a change of heart considering his shaky behavior and troubled love life Isn’t the destination decided first then the route?, to dream is a basic right otherwise what’s the point of waking up every day?, we have to sing from the heart not just our minds and bodies, these days everyone wants a fast song which sometimes doesn’t carry the same rhythm, we all deserve our own window seat, our parents write our stories, everyone should be allowed to have their own dream This movie was a lot more touching than I was led to believe, the songs are lovely mainly from Zaira Wasim, and there’s a humongous theme of motherhood that all moms and daughters can latch onto Sooner or later we all have to be brave enough to escape wasting our lives in fear and go after what we love Bollywood continues its streak of inspiring tales with this one Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/29/23 Full Review Audience Member A class movie which never veers away from its primary purpose amidst the props and is a winner for that matter!! There's so much more to the films good intentions and great art, which include consistent editing, admirable textures and heartwarming performances. While Aamir Khan's Shakti is obviously humorous as much as he is emotional, and while Saira Watson's first-time lead turn in top class, but the most enticing performance, the one that instantly drew me for the heartfelt smiles and weepswas the strong Meher Vij as the unconditionally loving mother. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is a true diamond in the rough. Throughout all the awful Bollywood movies, this one is amazing and will make you laugh, cry, and have that warm feeling in your heart. It addresses topics that happen not only happen in India and Pakistan but around the globe. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
