Rahul Desai Hollywood Reporter The thing about hard-to-stomach movies is that they tend to be exploitative. Sector 36, too, has its fair share of provocations, but it doesn’t rest on its inherent disturbia. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint The police work is scanty, the punishments are fleetingly mentioned, yet the makers suggest that this is indeed how the Nithari murders and investigation panned out. Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Ishita Sengupta OTTplay Based on the high-profile Nithari killings, Sector 36 is less about identifying the perpetrators and more about an investigation into what led — and leads — to the perpetuation of such crimes. Oct 12, 2024 Full Review Jose Solís Common Sense Media In his directorial debut, Aditya Nimbalkar commits the rookie mistake of stuffing his film with too many intentions that confuse rather than enlighten viewers. Sep 25, 2024 Full Review Rohan Naahar The Indian Express The exploitative Sector 36 takes the tone of a late night television newscast, drawing large circles around the most scandalous aspects of the terrible case while ignoring the very real human tragedy at its centre. Audience Member Mind blowing acting of all the characters Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Somak B In most cases, when filmmakers hesitate, I loved how the approach here was to portraying a disturbing and brutal tale with an intense tone. Vikrant Massey delivers an unforgettable performance, while Deepak Dobriyal's performance, although falling short of Vikrant's excellence, remains one of the best performances of the year. This film stands out for featuring not just one, but two towering performances. However, it loses points for not being a completely faithful adaptation. It fails to reach the level of "Talwar" in terms of respo Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review j F A rather intense gory movie. It did get confusing at times since there were so many initials and nicknames. But overall, excellent. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/01/24 Full Review Anukriti S It is a delight to watch Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal with their amazing performances in the movie. Being a true crime junkie, I already knew of a lot about the case, thanks to the DesiCrime podcast. Shoutout to the director Aditya Nimbalkar for getting many minor details right like the kothi gate, the nala, the casting of Bassi character. It still felt like I was given no closure(with hope/hopelessness). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/23/24 Full Review Himalaya B Thoroughly enjoyed the movie. If I remove some of the dialogues from the start of the movie, it was great throughout. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Harish N "Sector 36" delivers a chilling and suspenseful experience, drawing inspiration from real-life events to create a narrative that is both shocking and captivating. The film's exploration of a dark and disturbing subject matter keeps you on the edge of your seat, while its fresh perspective on a familiar genre sets it apart from other crime thrillers. Vikrant Massey's portrayal of a complex and sinister character is truly haunting, leaving a lasting impression long after the credits roll. Deepak Dobriyal's performance as the determined police officer adds another layer of intensity to the narrative. The film's unflinching portrayal of the crimes and their impact on the community is both harrowing and thought-provoking. It forces viewers to confront the uncomfortable reality of evil lurking within society. While the subject matter may be difficult to stomach for some, "Sector 36" is powerful and its ability to shock and thrill while shedding light on important social issues makes it a truly unique and impactful viewing movie experience.
