What to Know

Critics Consensus

In spite of a premise that promises to highlight Rebel Wilson with the appropriate level of pomp and circumstance, Senior Year is strictly remedial.

Verne Gay Newsday It's hard to imagine a more unpleasant movie than "Senior Year." Rated: 0.5/4 May 16, 2022 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times “Senior Year” is not an ambitious movie, but it’s mostly a sweet one, and frequently funny. May 15, 2022 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Rebel Wilson is inherently funny and she manages to wring a few laughs out of the sitcom script, but the thin plot is stretched out by the inclusion of multiple dance numbers... Rated: 2/4 May 14, 2022 Full Review Pallavi Keswani The Hindu Despite assembling all the right ingredients, any attempt at a saccharine piece of media is thwarted by a plot that is more confused than its protagonist. Jan 23, 2024 Full Review Nuha Hassan Nuha Hassan It was fun to see the early 2000s, Wilson is funny when she gets the chance to shine. However, the script is weak, most of it is consumed by the modern “wokeness” of high school kids and some of the stands are bizarre. Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Jillian Chilingerian Offscreen With Jillian Overall out of Netflix’s slate of forgettable films this is one that manages to lead among the pack and deliver a good time. Anna M L Its no brainer movie. Dont think or expect too much and just enjoy the ride. I love how this movie have a meaning that popularity doesnt mean much, and "perfect life" is just illusion (the cab scene). What matter the most is people who love us, and the adventures along the way. Its fun comedy, love the dancing routine.. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/24 Full Review It was a decent, fun film for an evening that we had nothing planned. There is some vulgar jokes that were not necessary. The movie provided a couple of chuckles while we were watching it. The 90's soundtrack WAS GREAT. The thing is with movies such as this...the script is pretty predictable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review Excel A Senior Year In this movie, Stephanie Conway (portrayed by Rebel Wilson), a beloved high school senior aspiring to be prom queen, falls into a coma due to a scheme orchestrated by her nemesis. Two decades later, she emerges from her coma and resolves to complete her senior year. Senior Year taps into 2000s nostalgia and benefits greatly from Rebel Wilson's comedic prowess. However, it falls short in depth. While the plot shows potential, it quickly feels underdeveloped. The stark contrast between young and older Stephanie is puzzling, as she ages physically but not mentally, seemingly played for laughs. The numerous characters here don't elevate the story, and they're not always fully utilised. The ending is rushed, and leaves loose ends; the fate of some characters remains unknown, case in point Tiffany and Blaine. Ultimately, Senior Year is a tropey and predictable flick but it also has its golden moments that help make it tolerable. 5.5/10 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Gerry M This was unadulterated drivel Woke and inclusive vomit - give it a miss Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Helen J The movie's storyline is weak and honestly overdone, it was boring and the characters were boring too. Not enough background work was done on the storyline and characters and it shows. Honestly don't waste your time with this movie. The acting wasn't really good at all, and you can tell when some of the actors are overacting some of their lines. Overall this was movie bad. I wish I didnt waste my time watching it. The only reason I ever really watched this movie was becasue Rebel Wilson is one of my favorite actresses. It was disappointing to watch her in this movie when I've seen her do better performances in her other acting projects. 😪 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/17/23 Full Review Ahmad M Can be comedic and appealing in some places, but not enough as it just falls off as too tiring of an experience that only leaves a bitter after taste.
