Phil Hoad Guardian There are moments of Guy Maddin-esque vim - like the crayfish that draws tarot cards - but even cameos such as Noel Fielding's sex-pest lackey come over as try-hard in the absence of much higher purpose. Rated: 2/5 Sep 15, 2016 Full Review J B Queree One Room With A View There are clever lines and inspired visuals - the film's saving graces - and a sense of offbeat aspiration, but sadly, the final product is as vague as London smog. Rated: 2/5 Mar 13, 2019 Full Review Paul M. Bradshaw Total Film The whimsy almost suffocates, but it refreshes to see a new name armed with so many ideas. Rated: 3/5 Dec 28, 2016 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times It hardly helps that in seeking to channel their inner Withnail & I, Winder and Bennett struggle to register against their scene-stealing co-stars or that Al Joshua's loquaciously episodic script makes so few expository compromises. Audience Member Complete and utter dog shite. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member http://cinephilecrocodile.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/set-thameson-fire-dir-ben-charles.html Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member While some may claim that this movie is without plot, I would argue that the plot is there, but subtly so. The more important parts of the movie can be seen in the interplay between Sal and Art, the two protagonists, and how their relationship forms. This delightfully haunting film is made ever so better by the fantastic performance of Noel Fielding as Dickie. My only complaint is that his character does not have more prominence. There is much more than meets the eye when it comes to Set the Thames on Fire - which is saying something, as the visual components of the film are absolutely stunning. This surreal black comedy is a delight, and ultimately well worth the watch. I wish that the soundtrack would be released! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
