Audience Member Shadow Creature stars Playgirl model and all-around beefcake Shane Minor as a moronic muscle-bound detective investigating a series of murders that revolve around a silly scientist working with mutated zebra mussels, his sexy associate, the crooked mayor, and a hilarious looking lizard monster. I'm sure you can put the pieces of the puzzle together, but regardless, the mutated lizard man is killing people and the detective, scientist, and hot associate must stop it before it kills again and/or creates more lizard human monster hybrids. Shadow Creature tries to add elements of 90's horror, comedy, gore, and special effects that we've seen in other movies like the Basket Case sequels, Bride of Re-Animator, or Severed Ties. While the film excels in being over the top like its predecessors, it fails miserably in the story and acting department, and when I say fail miserable, I mean it's miserable. The majority of this cast has never worked again, if that's any indication of how awful these actors are. Also, the story is beyond choppy and filled with enough bad editing and incontinuity that I found myself getting a little too confused for my liking, which virtually never happens when watching films of this caliber. I guess I expected this to be another uncovered gem, but it winds up being a piece of poop instead. The gore effects were fun to watch, as were the two or three jokes (out of hundreds) that actually managed to be nicely executed. Piss poor film overall.
