Jason K I give Shaman three out of five stars. Its isn’t the scariest possession film you’ll see this year, nor is it the most original, but it does try to carve its own path. With a moody atmosphere, a strong lead performance and an earnest exploration of spiritual conflict, it offers more than just the usual jump scares and demonic shrieking. Where it falters is in its reluctance to fully abandon the genre’s safety net. By the time the third act kicks in, you can feel the story retreating into well-worn territory, trading its unique cultural tension for a more familiar showdown between good and evil. Still, the film’s slow-burn approach and its underlying message about the limits of belief give it a little more weight than expected. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/13/25 Full Review Jo-Anna W This had some creepy parts and a few jump scares. It was also quite intense at times as well. It was like a slow burn sort of horror movie and it worked for me! The acting was pretty decent as well. It wasn't perfect but I've definitely seen worse. All in all, I enjoyed it and would watch it over again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/13/25 Full Review Natasha C Shaman 2025 handled the theme of possession surprisingly well, and I genuinely enjoyed watching it. While it’s unlikely to sweep any major awards, it stands a clear step above your average “popcorn horror” flick. The film delivered several well-timed, well-executed jump scares that kept me engaged. That said, the character development left something to be desired. A richer backstory for each character would have helped me connect more deeply and care about their fates. For example, I think the father had maybe three lines in total—which made it hard to feel invested in his role. The special effects were a mixed bag: in the first half, they looked like they had a solid budget; in the second half, it felt like they let someone’s nephew take over. At one point, I actually chuckled during what was supposed to be a serious scene because of the sudden drop in quality. Still, despite its flaws, I had a good time with this movie. I don’t regret watching it, and for the entertainment value alone, I’m giving it 4 stars. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/12/25 Full Review Jay W Talk about a waste of time! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/12/25 Full Review Matthew P This film is more intent on exploring themes of religious hypocrisy in colonialism than constructing suspenseful horror. As for its attempts at the latter, we've seen it all before and better done... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review nilufer e Even though I'm a sucker for exorcism movies, this one didn't give me any thrills. It started intriguing however it soon turned out to be quite blend with a boy possessed with a horrible make-up. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Read all reviews
