Phuong Le Guardian [An] accomplished, visually impressive debut. Rated: 3/5 Sep 14, 2022 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting Aldana uses horror to cast a spotlight on the invasive, all-consuming nature of an eating disorder, yet plays it too safe with the genre elements. Rated: 2.5/5 Jan 31, 2022 Full Review Alexandra Heller-Nicholas AWFJ.org Shapeless is, ultimately, an immersive, intoxicating experience where the sensory trumps more orthodox narrative storytelling elements, a perfect fit when it comes to the film's challenging subject matter. Oct 10, 2021 Full Review Ernesto Zelaya Miñano ScreenAnarchy It's a deep dive into a very disturbed psyche, and it's not pretty. Jan 25, 2023 Full Review Caitlin Crowley Flickering Myth An insightful story about an all too easily concealed problem. Like an especially sad blues song, Shapeless just might break your heart. Sep 23, 2022 Full Review Caitlyn Downs ScaredSheepless.com Arresting, methodical body horror with a focus on the internal experience of its protagonist. Audience Member Overall, carrying a pleasing concept, Shapeless is filled with both dramatic and horrific moments. Due to the film's themes and slow pace, it will undoubtedly create mixed opinions among its viewers. Visually there is plenty to admire here as audiences will feel various emotions and certainly feel uncomfortable throughout. The performance from Kelly Murtagh is pleasing, and I felt she successfully delivered what would have been quite a challenging character to the screen. For a directional debut from Samantha Aldana, the film contains plenty of new ideas that the cinema world has yet to see, which I'm extremely thankful for. I genuinely look forward to seeing what's next.
