Helen Frizell Sydney Morning Herald Sheila Levine is Dead and Living New York has a mouthful of a title, but is good fare -- in the kosher manner. Oct 12, 2023 Full Review Pauline Kael The New Yorker What's disturbing about the movie is that it exploits the self-hatred of so many women in the audience, who identify with Sheila because they feel that they, too, are not top-quality love objects. Oct 6, 2023 Full Review Susan Stark Detroit Free Press The film has virtually no appeal. Aug 17, 2021 Full Review Steve Warren The Barb (Atlanta) The story is nicely told, although it could use a few more laughs and a little less reliance on coincidence. May 9, 2023 Full Review Candice Russell Miami Herald The hard-hitting book has become a half-credible fantasy that panders to the romantic imagination of the masses... Aug 17, 2021 Full Review Stanley Eichelbaum San Francisco Examiner Jeannie is cold and hasn't the inner glow the appeal and magnetism that an actress needs to carry a film. Audience Member Best movie I've seen all year. Okay, it's 2016, but still. Great performances all around, and don't hate me for saying this, but this is the best I've seen Roy Scheider. He's more vulnerable here than I've ever seen him before. I caught it on TCM, but if you missed it, it's on The Paramount Vault on YouTube, an awesome legal channel for watching a ton of stuff, a lot of which has never been on DVD or VHS, like this one.
