07/13/2011 A great documentary in style and substance. It's very real and very human - mistakes, successes, growth, never perfection (perfection doesn't exist). Very personal (it's a documentary exploring the relationship and life changes during the years from when she came out as trans to years later transition in the past, etc - so it's her talking to her ex-wife and her parents and siblings and it's very intimate family talking to family trying to stay in "documentary" mode but always slipping so it seems much more like a genuine conversation. But as the filmmaker tells portions of her experiences she is intertwining her narrative with how everyone around her was feeling and the impact it was having on them. Not always the best answers from family members - but flaws. And since it's filmed over a few years, you do see changes in everyone and see that what might come off as negative was misguided positive. It's a good documentary to get a different perspective on transsexual female experience (can't think of any that come close to this one) and it's a good documentary period.
