Frank S. Nugent New York Times A pretty kettle of bubbling brew it makes under Mr. Lubitsch's deft and tender management and with a genial company to play it gently, well this side of farce and well that side of utter seriousness. Nov 8, 2022 Full Review Kate Cameron New York Daily News It is told in such a way as to warm the cockles of the heart and send the audience away from the theatre the better for having been permitted this intimate glimpse into the lives and loves of the personnel of the Matuschek store in Budapest. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Louise M This is the movie that one of my favorite rom-coms is based on: You've Got Mail. Both are equally charming but I'm more inclined to rewatch the newer version. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/24 Full Review Alec B A great love story about the power of empathy, something we could all use a little more of these days. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review Scott M Really surprising how much a enjoyed this film. From the very beginning, it's story is just so fresh and warm. I really felt for every one of the characters. And by the end of the movie, I really wanted the two leads to be together. Wonderful movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review Blu B Charming & Sincere this is such a gem. Even though there is no soundtrack to speakof it never is dry and filled with charm and characters you fall in love with in such a lovely intimate setting. There really isn't any faults with this at all. What suprised me is how much Frank Morgan gets of the story and how integral his arc is to the two leads love story as well which really gives it a lot of heart and forgoes dumb antics between there pen pal relationship. Character development takesfront and center more than Rom Com antics. This is much more of a drama mixed with romance and comedy in classic Lubitsich fashion. Everyone should give this a try once! All Time Classic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review David F A charming love story about two pen pals who fall in love then gradually realize they are coworkers in a shop. The shop-life content was what really shined for me. This movie captures a lot about what it is like to work in retail where you grow close to people and at times may think of them as family but at the end of the day they are just your coworkers. There were some subplots about getting fired and getting promoted that also hit home for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
