Charles Solomon Los Angeles Times Katsuhiro Otomo's uneven but often dazzling anthology feature "Short Peace" reminds viewers of the untapped visual potential of animation. Apr 17, 2014 Full Review Ard Vijn ScreenAnarchy What it does provide is a good overview of the talent and ability of the Japanese animation industry, if maybe not so much its storytelling capabilities. I recommend seeing it! Jan 10, 2020 Full Review Joe Bendel Epoch Times Arguably, the constituent films of Short Peace proceed from best to worst, but the decline is remarkably gradual. Frankly, there is no clunker in the lot. Rated: 4/5 Jul 17, 2016 Full Review Jamie S. Rich Oregonian ...one of the more satisfying cinematic anthologies I've seen. It's a mixed bag, but in the best ways possible. Rated: 4/5 May 20, 2014 Full Review Matt Kamen Observer (UK) It's a beautiful exhibition of animation as an art form. Nate J I thought this was a great anime compilation up there with “The Animatrix”, “Halo Legends”, “Genius Party” “Robot Carnival” & “Memories”. Short and sweet. Thoroughly enjoyable. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/24 Full Review Late R An anthology of animation such as this is always interesting because of the variety of stories told in wildly different ways, sometimes very unusual ways due to the respective director's desire to use the platform to showcase something slightly unconventional, even if the stories themselves aren't quite as interesting as the techniques used. And so it was with 'Short Peace', the follow up to Otomo's outing in the 90's, 'Memories', which featured far more interesting stories, but not so much experimentation. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Style over substance, but really amazing style. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Many diverse shorts, all about Japan, all diverse innovative and pretty unique (some more than others perhaps). My personal favourite: a tale of old japane told using the unusual perspectivee (pun intended) of classic japanese painting and prints. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
