Sheri Linden Los Angeles Times With its likable characters, local color and cross-cultural sparks, "Signature Move" has unsentimental sweetness and pluck. Feb 8, 2018 Full Review Fionnuala Halligan Screen International Signature Move is - like its heroine - cautious when tackling its most contentious themes. Nov 13, 2017 Full Review Bill Zwecker Chicago Sun-Times While this likely will appeal strongly to LGBTQ audiences, I hope it finds a wider viewing, as the acting and the dialogue make for excellent drama. Rated: 3/4 Sep 30, 2017 Full Review Frederick Blichert Vice The film's screenwriter and star Fawzia Mirza tells a deceptively straightforward coming-of-age love story. Deceptive in that every little detail communicates so much about the various overlapping identities of each character. Feb 13, 2022 Full Review Cody Corrall CINE-FILE Signature Move uses the glitz and performance of wrestling to initiate thoughtful conversations on the masks we all wear, especially as queer people. It's full of heart, introspection, and endearing humor-all while being wholly Chicago. Jun 23, 2021 Full Review Manuel Betancourt Remezcla This multicultural film's exploration of relationships, cultural exchanges, and the mother-daughter dynamic will enthrall. Audience Member The dialogue and acting in this movie is terrible. The amount of dead air between lines is insane. This movie does not understand the concept of show don’t tell. Having the mother just talk to herself and saying that she wants her daughter to marry a man?? You’re kidding. You could have introduced that as dialogue between the mother and the main character as a fight or an uncomfortable conversation. Create some tension between the 2. The R&B music over the montage of dancing and partying felt like The Room. There are some just cringy lines in this movie. And the conversations between characters does not feel like real things people would genuinely say to each other. Ah, yes, I am your wrestling coach in exchange for lawyer things… how many people have you fucked by the way? Lmao like if you want to introduce that these 2 characters are becoming friends, then have some lead up. Create dynamics between characters instead of just montages. Let me actual care about these characters by showcasing their personalities and their dynamics between each other. Tell me why does she like wrestling so much, why would she take lessons instead of money? Beautifully written, acted and directed by WOMEN that know how to tell an authentic story from a woman's unique perspective! The subject matter is so timely and important for others to relate to people that are not the same as themselves....The movie has both humor and amazing humanity!
