Shion's goal is to bring chronic loner Satomi (Haruka Fukuhara) "happiness." But her strategy is something no human would expect: she serenades Satomi in the middle of the classroom. After finding out that Shion is an AI, Satomi and her childhood friend, engineering geek Toma (Asuka Kudo), steadily warm up to the new student. Along with the popular and attractive Gotchan (Kazuyuki Okitsu), the strong-willed Aya (Mikako Komatsu), and judo club member "Thunder" (Satoshi Hino), they become more and more moved by Shion's singing voice and earnestness even as her antics bewilder them. Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Yasuhiro Yoshiura's strikingly beautiful anime is high-concept in its themes and unashamedly sentimental in its execution, and gets rather more interesting in its darker second half. Rated: 3/5 Jan 30, 2022 Full Review Julio Plaza Torres Cinemanía (Spain) An ode to friendship without prejudice that surprises in its simplicity. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Mar 1, 2023 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) Genuinely moving, the script effectively builds pace and tension and gives the characters enough backstory and motivation that they don't come across as, forgive me, two-dimensional. Rated: 4/5 Aug 10, 2022 Full Review Buffy de Latour SciFiNow The songs are a delight, and the movie has heaps of humour to offer, but it’s the quiet moments where the characters talk intimately with each other that really give the film its heart. Rated: 4/5 Feb 3, 2022 Full Review James Perkins Starburst Sing a Bit of Harmony is a delightful little story that, although not as powerful or as spectacular as some of its peers, still provides a heartful two hours of entertainment. Rated: 4/5 Jan 28, 2022 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media A sweet, big-hearted fantasy/musical full of crushes and cool tech, this enjoyable anime moves gorgeously and sounds great, wearing its unflappably positive attitude right on its colorful sleeve. Victor S It was a beautiful movie, the ending was amazing and each character gets their ideal development. Highly recommend it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/22 Full Review Margaret The animation, characters, music, voice acting and story is beautiful, funny, touching and amazing, from beginning to end. If you want to see it, see it. You will not regret it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/22 Full Review Kirill Neko Not perfect, but enjoyable movie from the author of Time of Eve. Story falls short of the premise in the second half, with internal inconsistencies and poorly developed plot-points. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/22 Full Review John R It felt like watching a musical! It was lovely. I think I even enjoyed this film better than Mamoru Hosada's BELLE. A science fiction musical with a twist. Quirky, heartfelt, fun. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/22 Full Review Kalyn R I loved it! The visuals are amazing, and the songs were great! I really enjoyed the movie, and it will for sure tug on your heart strings. I would recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/22 Full Review David P Fun and interesting movie about an AI thrown into a typical high school class and instructed to blend in. I usually find JC Staff production to be hot or miss, but they were definitely "hit" this time. When the "evil corporation" came and took her away her classmates came and rescued her because she was their friend. (If it had been an American movie there would have been discussion about her rights as an individual, but different societies, different rationals.) Another interesting part was an unusually large amount of singing. The AI's core personality was formed from videos of the lead investigators daughter as a pre-schooler. As a parent of a former-preschooler I too remember their fixation of watching animated musicals over and over and over. (I'm just grateful that the AI never broke-out in the Barney song!)
