Nick F May 8 Six Black Horses is a 1962 Western starring reliable Audie Murphy and the rather more charismatic Dan Duryea, as drifting gunman who get what they think is a lucky break when a beautiful woman hires them to escort her across Indian territory to be re-united with her husband. What they don’t know is that she has a deadly ulterior motive. With a fine script from Burt Kennedy and the haunting Utah landscape as the backdrop, this film hooks you in right from the start. The intriguing woman is engagingly played by Joan O’Brien and inevitably, both Murphy and Duryea have feelings for her which intensify as they cross the desert and fight off Indian attacks. When the woman’s dark secret is eventually revealed, it sets up a riveting finale to a fine well-made Western. Reviewed by NICK FLETCHER. Historical inaccuracies were par for the course for 99.999% of westerns. The story is unique.
