Six from Paris suffers from the flippant transparency that's all too common with this informal subgenre, the lure of having all these talented apples in once basket is an interesting bit of trivia, but it seems like no one bothered to check for bruises.

It's a very La Nouvelle Vague thing. After all, it was a compilation of 6 different directors' short segments released in 1969. I like Jean Douchet's < Saint Germain-Des-Pres > most for its easiness.

A portmanteau film of six shorts directed by three well-known nouvelle vague directors (Rohmer, Godard, Chabrol) and three relative unknowns (Rouch, Douchet, Pollet) gathered together by Barbet Schroeder and ordered to follow certain rules (not unlike Dogme 95): natural lighting, real Paris locations, no stars. Most of the directors manage to sketch out a little bit of drama (focused mostly on love/sex or relationships) with characters that might hold up to further scrutiny. Upon reflection, Jean Rouch and Claude Chabrol win the day.
