      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Slay the Dragon takes a suitably outraged -- but ultimately optimistic -- look at modern-day gerrymandering that doubles as a heartfelt call to action.

Kim Y Wow. Real eye opener! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/10/23 Full Review marc p I'd pay more attention to these political documentaries if they weren't so heavily weighted to a single side of the voting spectrum. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It makes me angry that while politicians play around and gerrymander, our democracy is dying. ALL FOR POWER. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked it for a bit until it became soo blatantly biased... would have been much better if diversified in their representation.. gerrymandering their beliefs as truth.. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I like that it covers the topic of gerrymandering and draws connections to how gerrymandering leads to the implementation of unpopular policies like right-to-work laws. At the same time, I think it would have benefitted from covering the success of nonpartisan commissions in places like California. I also would have liked to see them take on gerrymandering done in blue states like New York. Look at a congressional district map in NYC and you will see what I am talking about. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Fantastic film. Educational. Inspirational. Get some friends together to watch this and learn how about gerrymandering and how it can be stopped. Nice work to the filmmakers and all involved with the project. Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle This is the best primer on political gerrymandering imaginable and should be mandatory viewing in grad school public policy symposiums and high school civics classes alike. Rated: 4.5/5 Apr 30, 2020 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News Gerrymandering is purposely confusing. Even its name is wonky. But the compelling, impassioned documentary "Slay the Dragon" does an effective job of explaining it... Rated: B Apr 4, 2020 Full Review Eric Kohn indieWire While it doesn't exactly bring new information to the table, the movie provides a welcome breakdown of the dramatic impact that gerrymandering has across American society whenever election season comes around. Rated: B Apr 4, 2020 Full Review M.N. Miller Film Focus Online Slay the Dragon is a searing look at redrawing voting lines by erasing the ethical ones. Rated: 4/5 Jan 4, 2023 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film If you've ever felt mistreated by the system and wanted to do something about it but not known where to start, this is an excellent primer. Rated: 4.5/5 Apr 8, 2021 Full Review Alex Bentley CultureMap Slay the Dragon shines the light on something that, while not as sexy and well-known as candidate campaigns, is just as important in our democracy as anything else.
