Critics Consensus

Slender Man might be thin, but he's positively robust compared to the flimsy assortment of scares generated by the would-be chiller that bears his name.

Ben Sachs Chicago Reader The girls are so poorly defined that they're practically interchangeable; when the bogeyman starts making them disappear one by one, you may not realize at first that any of them are gone. Mar 4, 2020 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting Slender Man essentially feels like a movie created from a how-to guide to horror. Step one: apply drab color palette with hazy blues, greens, and neutrals. Step 2: make sure all set pieces look like generic, creepy locations. Rated: 1.5/5 Dec 7, 2018 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian If you thought the bogeyman was slender, wait till you see the film. Rated: 2/5 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review David Day Horror Movie Talk Not redeemable, not enjoyable, not so bad that it’s good, just bad in the same way as when you realize you have explosive diarrhea – there is no good time for it, and you just wish it never happened. Rated: 2/10 Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Jordy Sirkin Jordy Reviews It Slender Man aims to bring the sinister character to the big screen, but it painfully disappoints. Jan 2, 2021 Full Review Jorge Loser Espinof Slenderman deserves an opportunity to be seen as a respectable horror film. Luke F. Just why? I had so much hope. And then they were All just smashed. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/31/25 Full Review Rafael S Slenderman is a very interesting character, my favorite Creepypasta. But this movie is a disgrace and wasted all the potential of the film. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/29/25 Full Review Andrew L. Just dumb and boring with very irritating characters. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/26/25 Full Review Luc H Final verdict. Let's start by the good stuff. Photography is fab (the library scene, the woods), music is more than good, lighting is... woaw, some of the special effects really stand out (the final tree/death scene, Lizzie "bursting", the hollow face). That's the good stuff. But then there's all the rest. The four main actresses feel like the same person - very weak character development, if any. The Lizzie - Hailey arch is inexistent, though fundamental to the plot. There's a hint at it in the first half, but nothing more. Big fail. It's the classical story of hysterical youth going through denial, anger and screaming about, after a "fun" experiment gone wrong, of course not seeking help from adults who are, by definition, annoying, invasive and thick. The build up is good (up until the first death), but then there's so much all over the place... It's SO messy. Somebody with a bit more discipline and sense of structure could have made something good out of this. Still. As it is; go in with no expectations and you'll be rewarded with an above-average horror movie. A good Sunday afternoon, post-hangover, couch-in-PJs flic. Which isn't bad in its own right. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/19/25 Full Review Tommy D The worst and most obscene movie I've ever seen, complete garbage that you forget after 5 minutes. The plot is nonexistent, the acting is shameful, the protagonists are so poorly written that you don't even notice one of them disappears. Boring, and the CGI is truly horrible. Another flaw is the villain, who I found very anonymous. Slenderman is one of the worst creepypastas ever created; the funny thing is that it's not even scary. A stupid movie that should be forgotten by everyone. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/18/25 Full Review Tristen B This movie by none of the actors fault was terrible. That’s it that’s all I got.
