Tim Grierson Screen International This low-key drama has lovely interludes and some nicely understated performances, although director Niels Mueller doesn’t glean too many new insights from Jason Naczek’s familiar story... Jul 22, 2022 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times Mueller’s direction is patient and sensitive, the cast is accomplished and committed, and the picture’s comedic aspects sometimes earn a chuckle. Jun 9, 2022 Full Review Peter Gray This is Film Small Town Wisconsin could hit some home truths for viewers, and though being faced with the truth isn’t always pleasant, it feels necessary in growing towards a happier fruition. Jul 22, 2022 Full Review Sumner Forbes Film Threat Small Town Wisconsin is a success in almost every regard, and if you can see over the legions of cheeseheads in the rows ahead of you, it shouldn’t be missed. Rated: 8.5/10 Jun 16, 2022 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media Just like Wayne, Small Town Wisconsin has flaws, but the poignancy of the story will stick with you for a long time. Rated: 3/5 Jun 14, 2022 Full Review Rob Thomas Capital Times (Madison, WI) It’s a movie with its heart in the right place, and does both small town and big city Wisconsin proud. Craig M This was a very well done film about an alcoholic divorced man who loves his son and saw not only his son, but everything in his life slipping away. Filled with great symbolism throughout, very good acting and it was fun for us to watch because it was about our home state and hometown, Milwaukee. But it could have been about anywhere and still been well worth watching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/17/22 Full Review judith w Kristen Johnston is amazing Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/22 Full Review Colleen H The accent used is not what I think a Wisconsinite sounds like. The accent is MN, ya der hey!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/15/22 Full Review Alexander L Very touching and beautiful cinematography. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/15/22 Full Review carol K It was a fairly good movie sort of slow moving Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/14/22 Full Review Jonathan L It's not breaking any genra barriers, nor is it a new story by any means, but it doesn't have to be. The simple, grounded nature of the film allows the amazing cast to shine. Sure it's not flashy, but it's well shot, acted, scored, and put together. One of the best father-son movies I've seen, kind of like if The Persuit of Happiness and The Straight Story had a baby. 95/100 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Read all reviews
