The first in a slew of films concerning intrepid reporter Torchy Blane (Glenda Farrell) of the Morning Herald, this lighthearted mystery opens with the murder of businessman Tiny Torgenson (Joseph Crehan). As Torchy gets the scoop on the killing, and her police detective beau, Steve McBride (Barton MacLane), investigates the case, the two begin to suspect nightclub owner Fitz Mularkey (Addison Richards) and his singer sweetie, Dolly Ireland (Winifred Shaw), of having a hand in the crime.
