Critics Consensus

Although many of the jokes have been done before, Anna Faris's bright performance and Gregg Araki's sharp direction make Smiley Face more than your average stoner comedy.

It has Anna Faris in full goofball mode, which is a treat, but she's the only element in the effort that's worth following, as the rest of the offering can't rise above dismal ideas for comedy. Go to Full Review

See more Michelle G @tediously_brief Aug 25 the "come on, frank. you know i love surprises!" outdoor line reads to the "come on, frank. you know i love surprises!" exiting the elevator sequence is immaculate filmmaking and storytelling if i could only watch that section of this film and the parking lot sequence and the president garfield sequence my favorite scenes in any film ever period. anna faris deserved an academy award for her 5-star realistic feature-film long stoner performance. just as melissa mccarthy got an oscar for her performance in bridesmaids, anna faris should’ve gotten an oscar for smiley face. this is my hill. i said what i said. "If you could with a single act, change the whole trajectory of your life, would you do it?" this entire cast does not miss. gregg araki is taste. See more Harrison B @clinthoward Jun 11 I think I shut it off before it ended. See more prawnda S @RT72497680 May 24 there are a lot of moments that feel more frightening than comedic and the vibes are uncomfortable in many scenes. i can see why some people would love this and some would hate it, because if you are just looking for a silly stoner comedy this one is actually not very relaxing. the laughs are limited and the ending was pretty dumb, not in a funny way. i like anna farris and i think the movie is watchable, but could be a lot better.
