The animation is great but the film is a little boring with no real plot line. The problem with the Smurf films is the studio hires uninspired filmmakers for the property. The original Tv show was clever and the characters were fun, this film just goes through the motions of a very simple storyline. This was better than the first 2 films but it isn't by a huge stretch, I can only hope with the films poor box office the film is handed to another studio to produce. Sony is having a mixed year with films and this was another poor reboot, Spiderman Homecoming proved reboots do work for studio but that was more thanks to Marvel Studios being involved. Uninspired film that fails to garner interest in a critically poor franchise. 16-07-2017.

Much more of a pleasant kid-friendly palate cleanser than a cinematic torture vehicle like the live-action/animated hybrid Smurf films, Smurfs: The Lost Village, wisely and finally, converts the blue characters into eye-popping animation. It's a gorgeous looking film, with a solid female-centric core. It could have even gone further with the girl power as it was perfectly laid out to be a feminist reboot of the series. The script still needs some work, as random sex jokes and juvenile humor take away from the childlike innocence found in the rest of the film. It isn't fantastic animated cinema, but after dreadful previous releases, it comes as a pleasant lark. Rating: 59

Hey guys, don't be mad over another Smurfs movie. This film brings back the wonderful joy of the adaption that calls this film's attention and it's even better the why-do-you-think-this-was-a-great-idea-at-all live-action/animated Smurfs movies. Even if this is so, don't be completely expecting a great film from here to the movie's complete end (which is supposed to be the credits that follows the film). Smurfs: The Lost Village is possibly one of the best Smurfs films you could receive in this decade and for now even with its horrid mistakes they kept from the previous Smurfs films. I mean, at least you have someone to thank for the removal of the real world in the world of Smurfs. Watch if you completely dare, but don't expect this one to be winning an award or even being nominated for one whatsoever. I can't say all the mistakes this film has because that's spoiling it and it's not fun when you spoil the best parts of a film. To end this with a short diagram, Smurfs: The Lost Village is a huge improvement but the huge in the improvement is not present due to the many mistakes this film contains.
