I cringed in embarrassment throughout the entire movie. Wish makes Encanto look like a masterpiece. The story, characters, and music were all so superficial, lacking even a shred of depth. The animation was beautiful at times, but sadly this production will forever dwell in the bowels of Disney failures like its equally vapid predecessors, Lightyear and Strange World.

Saw a lot of excerpts! It looks great and the songs are fantastic. Maybe it will save Disney after so many bad decisions.

The gruesome story of a eight year old getting raped by a drunk. She barely survives and we witness the rest of the family as they fight the rights system, big bills and the tramatized daughter. This is not a pleasent story but it's not presented that darkly. I'm kind of glad it's not total darkness, but still the bright colors and typical Japanese movie music ruins a bit of the feeling.
Solid acting and all, OK plot development too but it somehow failed to really grip me. I was kind of let down as I expected an emotional rollercoaster ride. It has it's highs and lows on the wrong spots for me so it never totally gripped me. Maybe my feelings are broken, I don't know.
It's also a bit long. Not neccesseraly dragged, and it also get's better the last 20 minutes or so. The dad is a character I'm really feeling - especially his development, while the girl is someone to feel sorry for. Naturally the bad man is where you put all your hate so that matter of scales is taken care of. It may lack both subtlety and nuance but the message is crystal clear and important.
A strong plot, OK excecution, OK production, good acting - but not a film that will stay with me for too long, even if some scenes left a great impression.
7 out of 10 kokomongs.

Painful, emotional and sensitive, "Wish" shows that even in the most terrible tragedies there are still reasons to believe.

SLIGHT SPOILERS (BUT IF YOU KNOW WHAT THE MOVIE IS ABOUT, YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW IT ENDS)
The fact that the movie focused on Hope's journey from a sweet little girl to her recovery is great. It shows how hope can change someone's perspective of life. (In the film's case, The Father saw his blurry relationship with his daughter after the incident and never lost hope as he tries to reconnect with her) The acting. PERFECT!
