"Solomon and Gaenor" tells the moving and passionate story of illicit love between a Welsh girl and a Jewish boy. Gaenor, born into a family of strict chapel-goers, falls for Solomon, a young door-to-door salesman, who conceals his Jewish identity from Gaenor and her family. The couple, from similar yet very distinctive worlds, fall helplessly in love. The odds are against them, however, as the outraged community in which they live conspires to destroy their fragile happiness.

Along the lines of Romeo and Juliet...get the Kleenex out for the ending. Nudity and a fight scene...Ioan Gruffudd was outstanding and heartbreaking at the end!

Really great movie, but really sad. I still loved it even though I cried. It should have been more widely acknowledge for what it was-a brilliant love story. Ioan is great in it but I loved the leading lady as well, she had more character than expected.

So sad. I read one review which described it as similar to Romeo and Juliet, which I guess is true as far as the forbidden love aspect goes. Stories like this make me want to tell the characters, "Just sneak away together and don't tell anyone where you're going! Who cares what your bigoted parents think?!" But I know it's not that simple.
