Critics Consensus

Solomon & Gaenor's tale of star-crossed lovers is admittedly familiar, but the chemistry between its well-chosen leads is enough to break hearts all over again.

Audience Member Along the lines of Romeo and Juliet...get the Kleenex out for the ending. Nudity and a fight scene...Ioan Gruffudd was outstanding and heartbreaking at the end! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member All right, if not a bit boring. The ending was very poignant however. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Heartbreaking, but a bit too predictable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A tragic and powerful forbidden-love story set in early 1900s Wales. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Really great movie, but really sad. I still loved it even though I cried. It should have been more widely acknowledge for what it was-a brilliant love story. Ioan is great in it but I loved the leading lady as well, she had more character than expected. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member So sad. I read one review which described it as similar to Romeo and Juliet, which I guess is true as far as the forbidden love aspect goes. Stories like this make me want to tell the characters, "Just sneak away together and don't tell anyone where you're going! Who cares what your bigoted parents think?!" But I know it's not that simple. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
