Leslie Felperin Guardian The film becomes a bang-on illustration of how cinema can be an engine for empathy, and certainly viewers won’t need to be deaf themselves to get what Angela is going through. Rated: 4/5 Sep 11, 2025 Full Review Diego Batlle Otroscines.com This type of story has every reason to fail, whether through excess or deficiency, and in that sense the director and her cast succeed with a story that...is profoundly humanistic and, at times, as heartbreaking as it is moving. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Sep 17, 2025 Full Review Emma Simmonds The List Deaf takes an intimate, incisive look at the all-too common challenges of new parenthood, while presenting circumstances that are fascinatingly specific. Affecting and enlightening, it’s a powerful piece of cinema. Rated: 4/5 Sep 11, 2025 Full Review Carlos Boyero El Pais (Spain) [Alvaro Cervantes’s] character is very well developed, and he also brings necessary and contagious humanity. The rest leaves me cold, even if the plot is directed towards emotional understanding. [Eva Libertad] broadens the purpose and incorporates Ángela's group of deaf friends into the plot...[Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Apr 4, 2025 Full Review Luis Martínez El Mundo (Spain) A truthful, meticulous and even sensorial drama about motherhood, fear and the silence of everyone. Runa R It is always valuable to watch a film that places us in someone else’s perspective. Simple things, which no one might imagine, in the life of a deaf person – such as childbirth, with the obstetrician giving instructions that the character cannot hear, precisely because she is deaf. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review Jenny O I thought it was pretty good. Realistic and well acted. I wear hearing aids and I took them off to watch the film so saw it like a profoundly deaf person might see it. It gave you a real sense of how isolating deafness can be and how it might easily make you lose confidence and become paranoid. One problem with the film is that the baby was too young to act. Therefore she didn’t show much interest or pleasure in her mother. If she was really the woman’s baby I think would have been much more attached whether her mother was deaf or not. This created a stronger and unrealistic sense of alienation between the mother and baby than would happen in a normal mother/baby relationship. Also, some of the things the main character (Miriam?)was getter annoyed about - not being able to hear husband’s friends, people staring in a nightclub I would have thought she would have come to terms with well before this stage in her life. It was as if it was the first time she noticed these things. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/25 Full Review Ronan T A stunning compelling and revelatory movie you just cannot miss. When I saw the title I yawned! Almost dismissed it! But so glad I saw it. Few movies have the power to arrest the viewer the way this one does! I refuse to risk even hinting at a spoiler. Just go and see it! L Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/07/25 Full Review Ebenezer R Deaf is beautifully directed, and the chemistry between the characters is natural and great, especially the two main characters, Angela (Miriam) and Hector (Alvaro) were well-acted and believable. Although it's not perfect and tried its best to make the story interesting, it's still worth a watch because of its uniqueness and the perspective of a deaf mother raising her child. For me, Alvaro's character and acting are a bonus point that made the film enjoyable. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/25 Full Review Read all reviews
