Elle Haywood Vague Visages The Shakespeare Sisters boldly attempt to capture a young romance, but the film occasionally loses momentum with its loose script and clunky editing. May 15, 2023 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed Despite the performances, the film still unfortunately comes off generic and as mentioned before the soundtrack is rather lackluster given the film's title. Rated: 2.5 May 1, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com The script by the Shakespeare Sisters is endlessly charming. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 24, 2020 Full Review Katie Smith-Wong Flick Feast Soundtrack to Sixteen is a sweet, refreshingly naturalistic film that speaks to the teenager in all of us. Rated: 3/5 Jun 26, 2020 Full Review Rosalynn Try-Hane Liquid Marmalade For a debut feature, Soundtrack to Sixteen is quite impressive and promising future for this director/writer sister duo. Jun 4, 2020 Full Review Andrew Stover Film Threat Hillary Shakespeare... deploys a fairly talented supporting cast, a lived-in school setting, genuine messages about friendship, and two lead performers who sell a winning relationship. Audience Member A refreshing, touching coming-of-age film. A real gem that doesn't conform to many of the boring trope of your typical teenage dramas. A beautifully touching insight into the pressures of school, friendship, and blossoming romance, from a truly refreshing perspective. I expect great things from this sister-duo in the future, who have clearly shown just a fraction of what they are capable of. Highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful heartfelt film. A realistic and fun look at the British Highschool experience with teenage friendships and heartbreak. A low-budget indie with a lot of heart, fantastic acting from newcomers and great dialogue. A must-see! And an enjoyable film to watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Average characters in average situations, which often works; but in this film neither the writer nor director finds anything interesting to present. The film is half over before their paths cross, and they don't really connect until the very end. Brutal hand-held camerawork -- as if trying to lend a sense of "reality" by being jerky and swoopy. If this had a decent STORY, it might qualify as indie-cool. Instead, it's just forgettable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A beautiful film. Sweet, crude at times, but always tender. The young directors achieve a sharp portrait of adolescence. They take us to a vivid journey through one of the hardest experiences of our lives: entering adulthood. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it! This film creates a very genuine connection to a younger self and brings a lot of comfort and joy to watch. The characters are extremely relatable, quirky and cool! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member A lovely movie, beautifully shot and put together, Well balanced too, with a few weepy moments when thinking of my own daughter's teenage years in the same era and lots of surprise, laugh out loud, moments. And although my teenage years were a long time ago, a great reminder that some things never change! Can't wait for the next film from the Shakespeare sisters.
