Critics Consensus

Species shows flashes of the potential to blend exploitation and sci-fi horror in ingenious ways, but is ultimately mainly interested in flashing star Natasha Henstridge's skin.

It would be comforting to think that the genus Cinema Americana were guided by the principal of natural selection, but cloning and reversion seem, rather, to be the norm. Go to Full Review

It's a lot of fun. It's certainly well directed. We've seen it all before, but I enjoyed it. Go to Full Review

It's a sex horror-fantasy without laughs or life, a nightmare without sense, a casual pickup that should have been left at the disco. Go to Full Review

Typifies middling Hollywood schlock: a pulpy, sleazy sci-fi/horror creature feature destined to cycle endlessly through cable airings and, now, to pad out streaming platforms. Go to Full Review

While the effects often don’t hold up, and the script structure isn’t fully formed, this is a great slice of 90s-era sci-fi paranoia. Go to Full Review

Frans B @FransB 3d Certainly worth a watch if you've never seen it. Ahead of it's time in many ways. Great cast and all convincing in character. Great cinematography and groundbreaking visuals at the time. Intriguing, dramatic, lots of suspense, emotion and drama. Story not unique but entertaining nonetheless. See more Jack F @MovieFan111 Apr 29 This movie was stupid and derivative. Great cast, but they didn't really do anything. Just watch a better alien movie instead. I'm not recommending this one. Most don't like it because of the sexual content. However it is not overly sexual without reason. I love the film . Sometimes I think critics do not have a clue about films, just to watch and enjoy . They always want something arty farty , or in-depth and meaningful. I thoroughly enjoyed it , Natasha henstridge is a beautiful woman and reminds me a bit like splash, where she barely speaks English. The film does show men how they are,if a beautiful woman wants sex. Most men can't pull there trousers down fast enough. Great alien type film . Definitely worth watching. See more Gregory S @Gregory566 Aug 2 Just misses so many marks. So much wasted potential. See more Shayne P @RT38049274 Jun 11 Excellent mix of horror and sci-fi, with a creature design by the late H.R. Giger, the same guy who designed the Xenomorph in ALIEN. A very adult oriented theme, featuring an all star cast, and a beautifully stunning newcomer, Natasha Henstridge, as the Alien being. See more Read all reviews
