Scott Murray The Age (Australia) This is a film most will like - especially fans of last year's Submarine. Rated: 3/5 Apr 20, 2012 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald You and your kids will have seen it all before but, if you're looking for a less brutal take on the ordeals of adolescence than the one offered by The Hunger Games, this could work. Rated: 3/5 Apr 20, 2012 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Jun 20, 2011 Full Review Jim Schembri 3AW In a surprisingly strong performance, [John] Cleese puts a sharp spin on his portrayal as mentor to Spud [Troye Sivan], whose rites-of-passage journey avoids the usual cliches. Rated: 3/5 Jun 30, 2012 Full Review Ed Gibbs The Sun-Herald (Australia) A hugely entertaining coming-of-age tale, grounded in realism. Sivan's note-perfect portrayal of the diminutive hero is matched by a razor-sharp Cleese. Rated: 9/10 Apr 22, 2012 Full Review Julie Rigg MovieTime, ABC Radio National If there was satirical intent, it is leached from the film. Apr 20, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Turtle B THIS HAS AN 80. THAT MAKES ME HAPPY. This movie is not perfect and may parts of it did not age well. But gosh darn it, its so frickin silly cute. It makes me cry, it makes me laugh, and it makes me wanna give Spud a big ol' hug. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Some of the most impeccable story lines and plot twist. Must see!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review chris f It's like American Pie, except more wholesome and dramatic, and set in South Africa at the very end of Apartheid for some reason. It's quite charming, a bit pretentious, and a bit more cheesy and intense than it needs to be. But for all its silliness, its goofiness makes it shine a little bit. It's unique, for better or worse. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Pre-adolescent Troye Sivan. Boring narrative. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member young boy tries to fit in during his first year at boarding school. warm hearted comedy drama that really hits the spot. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Mildly amusing boarding school drama, the fact it is set in South Africa in changing times gives it some relevance over others in this genre.
