Of all the Star Trek productions I have seen, this has the most profound topic: search for God, only to find the devil, &also the topic of religious fanaticism is important. I regard those who fail to appreciate this movie, as commenting on their own Philistine shallow mentality. IMHO, this is the best of all Star Trek productions & the detractors are like those who prefer Elvis singing, "Don't stop on my blue suede shoes" to Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano concerto.

Enjoyable movie. Three court characters are the real stars of the film. The relationships stand out to this day. Effects aren't that great but effects were never a staple for this series.

I'm a lifelong TOS Star Trek fan. This is my favorite Star Trek film. I hear fans complaining about this and that but for me it was satisfying. It featured the people over the special effects. Shatner did a much better job on this than he's ever giving himself credit for doing. Everyone has an opinion on this film but mine is thank you Mr Shatner for a very entertaining film.

There is a kind of ambition here, not successful at all but ambition none the less. That's why the failure hurts so badly here. I still can't believe Kirk's "outsmarting" of "god" was done seriously here.

I loved the lighting in the scene that started the film/preceded the main title. The writing is absolutely astounding. Where the film falls short the most is that it seemed to have quickly burned through a big aspect to the larger Star Trek story -- and it didn't have the payoff it should have had, either.
