R.L. Shaffer IGN DVD Starship Troopers: Invasion is quite reminiscent of a video game cut scene, sans the joy of any actual gameplay. Rated: 5/10 Sep 26, 2012 Full Review Paul Chambers Movie Chambers If you're going to make an animated sequel to a live-action film, why not do something really terrific? You could create a world that would be difficult to reproduce in a live-action film. Instead, "Starship Troopers: Invasion" is just a boring quickie. Audience Member A superficial, superfluous sequel scraping the bottom of the barrel with nothing new to add. The choice to go for animation instead of live action this time round wasn't inherently bad, yet "Invasion" ended up looking more like a video game than a movie - and a janky one for that matter, as evidenced by the characters' clunky motion. Ultimately, although a few decent ideas and rudimentary suspense are present now and then, this is murky, haphazard and, despite the small runtime, largely boring. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review robert p What horrible animation and movie makes no sense. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The only good bug is a dead bug Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Honestly, the movie is overall rather engaging - The biggest problems is that it contains 2 major missteps. First, the cinematography (or CG equivalent) is surprisingly static, resulting in a movie that could easily have been done in live-action, and Second, the movie works solely as a work of Sci-Fi Action; the playfully engaging Political nuances of the original movies is almost completely stripped away sans just a couple of moments. I never saw the second live-action movie but I did see the atrocious third, and just about the one thing that movie did right was the Political angle; the fact that this, an objectively superior film in literally every other way, couldn't even come close is somewhat disappointing. But what is here is engaging on its own, just in more of a Halo style than a Starship Troopers style (which, for the record, aren't similar at all). The CGI works well enough but isn't on the higher-end in regards to the humans, falling well short of Advent Children from seven years earlier, and the story is serviceable, with Johnny Rico's role being a fun one, well in-line with his character. In many ways, his role is the one thing that makes it feel like a Starship Troopers film, as he and his posse take the 'Let's Do This!!' attitude when charging into danger, versus the central characters, who take a far more realistic approach. The dialogue and characters are certainly not bad, and the editing is good in regards to keeping up scene momentum, with no overly long shots or extreme quick-cutting, both of which are all too common these days. It's cheap to pick up last I checked, so honestly, I'd say feel free to check it out if you see it - it's not at all something amazing, but it's certainly not bad either. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review dick n Better than the 2 last movies but overall it is a game with no intereactions. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Much better than expected. A ggod view if you're a fan of ST saga and can be watched if youve never seen the other films. It's a scifi thriller thats better than most direct to dvd Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
