Robert Levin Newsday A deeply personal documentary about show business icons. Don't miss it. Nov 10, 2025 Full Review Stephen Silver The SS Ben Hecht Ultimately, this film is way more about Ben Stiller than it is about either of his parents Nov 8, 2025 Full Review Patrick McDonald WBGR-FM (93.7 FM - Monroe, WI) Fantastic job by Ben Stiller, taking a deeper dive into his comedy duo parents than any outsider could. The revelations were not so much on the history of their show biz as the history of their relationship, and how it affected Ben. So grows the twig. Fabius F A tender and touching documentary. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/11/25 Full Review Justin T. Genuinely one of my favorite documentaries of 2025. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/06/25 Full Review Vincent S. This excellent documentary on two comedy legends will make you cry and will give you a nice emotional hug. It also makes you think about life, relationships and your own Mother and Father. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/03/25 Full Review Susan W I thought this was fascinating and very personal. I remember Stiller & Meara. Hearing their story from their children, grandchildren, and old home movies was very moving. And I also really appreciated Ben Stiller‘s perspective about his parents and how doing this documentary affected his life. It isn’t just a documentary about their comedy. It’s more like an in-depth look at what made them tick as people. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/02/25 Full Review Phil K I had high hopes for this, which I'm sorry to say were not fulfilled. Its worst fault? It's boring. Boring and repetitive, and the repetition feeds the boredom. We see the same small selection of Stiller-Meara routines (and it turns out there were very few indeed) over and over and over. The same is true for their talk show appearances, in which more or less the same comments are made to Merv, Mike, Gene, Barbara, et al. The occasionally clever juxtapositions in the edit unfortunately don't make up for the overall frenetic, too-frequent montages of one and two-second cuts taken from family archival film and video. Strikingly, given Jerry Stiller's long stint on Seinfeld, there are zero interviews with any of the principals--no Jerry Seinfeld, no Larry David, no Julia Louis-Dreyfus, no Jason Alexander, whose character's father Stiller played in the show. These are notable absences, and you have to ask why they aren't present. Did they collectively sense a vanity project? Was Stiller (Jerry or Ben) a nightmare to work with? In world of unlimited streaming choices and very limited time, feel free to invest your viewing energy elsewhere. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/31/25 Full Review Robert S This is a vanity piece that Ben Stiller probably should have made for his children and relatives. As a standalone documentary, it's a snooze fest. Most people will not remember Stiller and Meara, and even those who do will probably not be inclined to sit through this. Simply put; it's boring.
