Steve D The script isn't much but the actors and story are good enough to make up for it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Audience Member inspirational sports picture with James Stewart and June Allyson Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/30/21 Full Review Audience Member A decent comeback film about the real life baseball story of Monty Stratton. Not very memorable, but it wasn't bad. (First and only viewing - 3/24/2018) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review ashley h The Stratton Story is an incredible film. It is about major league pitcher Monty Stratton who loses a leg in a hunting accident. James Stewart and June Allyson give amazing performances. The screenplay is well written. Sam Wood did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of both the drama and romance. The Stratton Story is a must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I found it interesting how Jimmy Stewarts physical performance changed as he was walking when he has troubles with his leg. Bob Thomas Associated Press The picture holds the interest by its fine, sentimental story, rather than by brilliance in writing or action. Jul 24, 2019 Full Review Thomas M. Pryor New York Times Mr. Stewart gives such a winning performance that it is almost impossible to imagine anyone else playing the role of the Chicago White Sox pitcher whose bright future was suddenly and tragically darkened by adversity in 1938. Aug 8, 2006 Full Review Elsa Branden Photoplay Jimmy is plenty appealing as the shy, lanky pitcher. Rated: 2/3 Aug 20, 2021 Full Review Moira Walsh America Magazine Not only does it capture the flavor of the ball park and the feeling of actual play, but on at least two occasions conveys a fever of excitement. Jul 15, 2021 Full Review TV Guide This inspiring picture about a man who wouldn't give up (and who acted as the film's technical advisor) also features appearances by the Yankee great Bill Dickey and pitcher Gene Bearden as themselves. Rated: 3.5/4 May 6, 2014 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com As directed by Same Wood, this sports biopic is too earnest and too concerned with being inspirational, but Jimmy Stewart is good.
