Luke Buckmaster Guardian Spall is the film's greatest asset but Luc's performance is a more harmonious fit tonally. Like the film, he is pleasant, unprepossessing and nothing to write home about. Rated: 2/5 Dec 2, 2015 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Undemanding and ultimately irritating but gentle con-man comedy from Australia. Rated: C+ Mar 9, 2016 Full Review Glen Falkenstein FILMINK (Australia) Sucker errs by not spending enough screen-time devising and carrying off creative cons; instead, it invests too much in sub-stories that are never fleshed out, nor as engrossing as the cons these promising characters could have pulled off. Audience Member This movie is just AWESOOOOOMMMEE Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member An excellent and funny comedy, that hits the heart and is relatable Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Based on a play by comedian Lawrence Leung, 'Sucker' is an impressive drama/comedy that makes the best use of it's cast/characters and plot. Its deals with the coming-of-age themes, talent, identity and connection to others with a more outlandish twist focusing on Con-Artists or 'Professional Liars' as it's said. I must say the efforts of everyone involved with the film have certainly paid off well. The writing certainly has it's merits along with and drama and conflict at play with the main characters, who also share unique chemistry with one another. Overall it's the type of quirky but lovable Australian Feature premiering at MIFF that'll win the audiences attention before screening nationally.
