In Czarist Russia, medical student Alexander (Siergiej Sznyriew) summers at his uncle's country estate. Long attracted to his beautiful cousin Sonia (Daria Powieriennowa), he finally wins her love. When Sonia's suspicious father, Count Cheraksov (Ernest Romanov), begins to question the cousins' closeness, Sonia claims Alexander's heart belongs to her visiting friend, Nathalie (Ewa Bukowska).
