Audience Member Biao takes on the classic 50's book/80's film. Swordfights, romance. A dated and enjoyable wuxia. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Sword Stained with Royal Blood (1981) depicts a royal family’s son being saved at the last moment during an assassination attempt. The young boy matures into a martial arts expert and hopes to revenge his slain family. However, along the way, he will have to convince a rebellion of his intentions, infiltrate the family, and perhaps disappoint his adopted family to avenge his family’s death. “Cut the crap. If you’re any good, give it all you’ve got.” Cheh Chang, director of Masked Avengers, Killer Army, The Spearman, Kid with the Golden Arm, 5 Kung Fu Daredevils, Crippled Avengers, Invincible Shaolin, Five Deadly Venoms, and The One-Armed Swordsman, delivers Sword Stained with Royal Blood. The storyline for this picture is classic Venoms; however, Chang depictured this film in numerous settings (which is uncharacteristic of a Venoms flick). “Why have you killed my mother?” “She deserves to die!” Sword Stained with Royal Blood had some fantastic action sequences. The choreography in a venoms film is always magnificent; however, the sword scenes in this picture are marvelous. This film does not contain all the Venoms, but it does star Lizard, Centipede, Scorpion, and the young venom. Nevertheless, this is a worthwhile Venom flick and amongst my top 10 venom films. “Insult you? You think you have a good reputation?” Grade: B+ Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
